James rolled his eyes, chuckling. "Yeah, but Cael won't chew you out if you break curfew the first night." he pointed out. Not that he really cared, Cael generally didn't give him much of a hard time about things like that. -- Cael walked the first years up to Ravenclaw Tower, showing the first-years the knocker and explaining how you got inside. He knocked it himself, and the knocker asked:
This thing all things devours: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down.
Cael turned to the first years. "Anyone want to try?" he asked. They all shook their heads, looking at him, terrified.
"What happens if we don't know?" one of them asked. Cael shrugged.
"Then you're stuck out here until someone else comes by and can answer. It's a good idea to have most of your stuff on you, double check before you leave the Tower. And you might want to make sure you've got a book, just in case. But don't worry; the longer you're here, the easier it gets. For instance--" he turned back to the knocker. "Time," he told it.
"Correct," the knocker said, the door swinging back to let them inside. The first years gasped as they saw the inside. Cael smiled, remembering the first time he'd entered this door.
"Welcome to Ravenclaw Tower."

They were nearing the portrait as Yasu shot back, "I thought you would enjoy that. Or is Butterfly a little shy?" Not only had she played with rhyme, but Yasu's grin was wide and had 'suggestive', 'perverted', and 'dirty' written all over it in big, fat permanent marker.
At the entrance to Ravenclaw tower, Hilda had encountered a literal roadblock to her room. It came in the form of little firsties and a prefect teaching them how to play Jeopardy with your host, Alex Tre-knock. Okay, not the cleverest of names, Hilda would admit, but she would go with it. The answer was time, and the first years filed in after the prefect. Hilda was used to the way the door knocker worked. It hadn't been too long ago when she had to answer it, but now she realized she would yet again have to play a trivia game just to get some sleep.
Maybe she'd ask Calix to marry her so that she could go to sleep without talking to a door. But then she realized the door was probably the preferable option. It would ask one question and be done.
She followed the first years like a shadow, meaning she got to enter without having to answer a question for tonight.
The first years then made their way up the stairs, leaving Hilda in the room with the prefect. "Name, prefect?" It really wasn't a question, but Hilda pretended it was to humor the sixth year.

James's eyes widened a fraction for a second, before he started laughing. "Maybe I would, at that, but it's not really your beeswax, is it?" he asked, sticking his tongue out childishly.
--
Cael showed the first years the stairs, giving them the directions to their dormitories. He started when someone spoke from behind him. He turned, only to see Professor Roads standing there.
"Oh, Professor Roads. I'm Cael Murano." he took note of her curt tone, but didn't take offense. He wasn't sure yet whether it was that she was just tired from the events of the day or if she was just always like that, but it didn't much bother him either way. Besides, she was his Head of House, he might as well get used to her.

Yasu shook her head, grin softening to a smile. "Butterfly, when will you learn that even if it isn't my business, I will somehow find out? At least with something like that. Though, in this case, if Cael is any good at it at all I will be able to tell straight away. And if he's awful at it I'll also be able to tell," Yasu informed her friend, laughing as she approached the portrait. The fat lady smiled down at them.
"Password?"
"Whomping willow," Yasu answered cheerfully. The woman nodded as she allowed her frame to swing forward, revealing the passageway.
"It really is a win-win for me," Yasu continued, a teasing smile on her face.
Hilda nodded at his names. He was polite so far and didn't have any obnoxious habits, so she approved. "Do students here still have to wake up at that ungodly hour they did when I went to school here, or has it changed, Cael?" Hilda asked. She had this unsettling feeling that she would end up going to bed earlier than she wanted so she wouldn't die when she had to wake up in the morning.

James laughed, crawling through the portrait hole after her. "I dunno, I think I'm getting the better end of the deal here," he said, waggling his eyebrows suggestively. -- Cael huffed out a breath, which for him constituted laughter. "It's probably the same time, unfortunately. I always feel like the walking dead until I've had a few cups of tea and coffee each, so.." he shrugged.

Yasu's dirty expression suddenly vanished as she stared at him, a disapproving frown on her face. "You bring a good point. You are undeserving," she said, the mock angry expression on her face. Then Yasu's face lit up once more. "But imagine how Cupid would react if you offered! I would want it on camera. It'll be better than that goldfish face he usually makes." She paused, one finger to her chin and her right hand on her hip as she mulled this over. "Ugh! I want your romance!" Yasu said, partially a joke because she could never be in a gay relationship with a guy (simply because that was a contradiction considering her gender), and partially because she had had only one boyfriend last year and he had only wanted to get in her pants.
Wait a minute, this sounded like what they were discussing.
No, no, he was a sleezeball. That, Yasu was certain of.
Chayne had remained in the tunnel between the Fat Lady portrait and the actual common room, observing this exchange with blank eyes. But within, gears were turning. This James kid wasn't made uncomfortable by Yasu's odd and dirty comments, which was unheard of when it came to Yasu, which was probably why Yasu was only ever so suggestive when around James and Chayne (who never reacted anyway).
Back in the Ravenclaw common room, Cael had unknowingly said the magic word. Hilda didn't laugh like he did at his own private joke, her mouth set in a grim line. "Cael," Hilda began in a clipped voice, "tomorrow morning you are to show me to this coffee. That is all." Before she turned around to enter the door she had located on her left and had assumed to be hers, Hilda shot a glance at Cael, then the stairs leading to the boys' part of the tower, and then back. In short, it was her mute command for him to go to sleep. Then she turned on her heel and entered her bedroom, clicking the door softly yet quickly behind her before locking it.
After all these years they finally had coffee at the blasted school.

James rolled his eyes at Yasu--and promptly became sidetracked as she mentioned him offering to..well. Because he could picture it all too clearly--how Cael would turn red and (in his fantasy, anyway) hesitatingly agree..and how--
He jerked out of his daydream when Yasu exclaimed about wanting their romance. "Well, you can't have ours, but I'm sure you'll have your own." he said. -- Cael blinked at Professor Roads at her demand to show her where the coffee was. "Uh, alright." he agreed. And then she promptly left, giving him a nonverbal command to go to bed. He shrugged and headed up the stairs.
Upon reaching his dorm, he greeted his roommates, and found Ysbryd, his cat, curled up on his bed. He smiled, petting him. "Beth ddiog, (Lazy thing)" he teased him. He changed into his pajamas and wrote a quick note to Jenna, planning to take it to the Owlrey in the morning. He then sat on his bed, talking with a few of his dormmates who were still awake.

Yasu snickered at James' reaction to her statement. "Well obviously I have to get my own. I just hope I can find someone who fits me as well as you two fit. Though you were about to explore that in your little daydream, weren't you?" Yasu teased.
It was right as she finished that Chayne slowly and silently began to emerge from the tunnel. Yasu barely caught a flash of her hair, but made no mention of it to James. Chayne would appear on her own time. Or if James noticed her of his own accord.

"I--yeah." James admitted with a grin. "Can you blame me? And I'm sure you will." He filed away that particular fantasy for later perusal--maybe after he went to bed, assuming he didn't black out the moment his head hit the pillow. The start-of-year feast always made it easier for him to sleep, probably all the food he consumed.

Yasu sometimes just wanted to hug that guy. And his boyfriend. Two extremely attractive teenage guys who weren't jerks. And they were gay for each other. Many a friend had asked how Yasu had managed to draw that particular lottery ticket."We've been over this. I'm the one who almost wishes your boyfriend wasn't gay so I could have him, remember? But enough of that. Can you imagine what the devil would do to me if I tried to take Cupid from you?" Yasu pointed out. And then a thought occurred to her. "Speaking of you, when are you hosting quidditch tryouts?" It wasn't the best bridge, but Yasu needed to know so she could tell one of her roommates, who had a thing for guys who rode broomsticks. (it was an odd way to put it, but the girl never referred to it any other way)

James laughed. "You know, you're really not going to help my possessive streak if you keep saying that." he joked. "And Cael won't thank you for that."
"And me. I might be scarier than the devil, in that case." he said mock-seriously. "No one steals my boyfriend and gets away with it."
James blinked, thrown a bit off by the sudden switch to Quidditch, but quickly recovered. "Uh, next week, I think. Tuesday? Why, you planning to try out? We're short a Chaser and a Seeker."

To say Yasu was intimidated by her possessive friend would be an absolute lie. But telling him so was the least of her concerns. She had to address his clear lack of understanding when it came to her question. Yasu flipped her hair over her shoulder as she gave James an 'are you serious' look. "The only athletic things I'm willing to participate in occur in the bedroom and when I shop. Oh, and if a creeper tries to touch me, but that's besides the point," Yasu assured James. "My friend is in it for the watching. I'm in it for the hot men. Is it too much to ask if the male Gryffindor population goes shirtless?"
Chayne then decided to appear... and then disappear once more, walking right in-between James and Yasu without a comment and heading for the stairs so she could get into bed, having heard what she needed to hear for the night.

James laughed at Yasu's reaction. "Hey, I was just asking. As for going shirtless--I would, but I don't know how many of the other guys would go for it." he shrugged--and then took a step back as a girl walked in between them. He blinked, watching her go up the stairs, before he brushed it off and returned his attention to Yasu.

Yasu watched Chayne go up the stairs for a second. She knew why Chayne insisted on going up despite the fact that she hardly ever slept anyway, but it didn't mean Yasu couldn't believe it sometimes. Seriously, she was passing up a golden opportunity to sneak around the castle.
But then she realized that James had mentioned that he would go shirtless. "Well, you are meat, so now that you've said so I expect nothing but pants on Tuesday, Butterfly," Yasu informed the sixth year. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go to sleep. Have sexy dreams, yeah?"
Then Yasu ran off after Chayne, a smile on her face. Tuesday would be fun. With this thought in mind she entered her room. She expected three girls to be asleep and one to be attempting to sleep and epically failing. Instead, she saw Chayne writing a letter. She wouldn't ask, despite being tempted, and Yasu soon found herself falling into a deep sleep.

James laughed as Yasu ran up the stairs, shaking his head. He was entertaining the idea of going shirtless during Quidditch tryouts when his face split into an evil grin at the thought of dragging Cael along. It was decided, then. He chuckled as he climbed up to the boy's dorm, thinking of the many ways he could tease his boyfriend, in all senses of the word. He greeted his dormmates enthusiastically and joined their conversation, snagging a few Chocolate Frogs from the pile of candy that was currently being shared amongst everyone. After a while, they went to bed. James fell asleep with a smile on his lips, dreaming about Quidditch and a certain boy with wings. -- After finishing his letter to Jenna, Cael climbed into bed, shifting Ysbryd so he could get under the covers. With a yawn, he pulled the hangings shut and fell asleep to the sound of his cat's purrs.
