James walked down the hill from the castle, heading towards the Quidditch pitch. He smiled and waved at the all the people he knew as he passed them, in an especially good mood.
As he reached the pitch, he caught sight of a sizeable crowd of students on the field. "Good turnout," he muttered to himself. He glanced up at the stands, searching out a couple of familiar faces, but ducked into the changing room before he found who he was looking for. He pulled off his school robes and exchanged it for his Quidditch uniform, humming to himself as he strapped on the familiar bits of armor.
He hadn't forgotten the promise he'd made to Yasu, but he thought it might make more of an impression if he took off his shirt as he flew onto the field. If he had a flair for anything, it was drama.
James turned and headed for the broom cupboard, where he'd stashed his Tailwind 5, which was in good shape for being his father's old broom.

Yasu was excited. Ecstatic. Today was the day. The day where brave souls with athletic figures strove to receive a place on the Gryffindor quidditch team, pouring forth all their efforts. Yasu knew very well the situation sports created. To succeed, you had to be fit. This basically meant well-built, usually highly attractive people would all be coming together in one easy-to-find location all for Yasu's enjoyment! Because... she loves quidditch games. Yes, that is absolutely it.
Well, not that the game itself wasn't entertaining. She loved cheering for Gryffindor, but the tryouts added a whole new level of greatness.
There was even going to be another level if James did as he had suggested he would. Which is why she found herself in a cramped, dark space. James was the captain. Shouldn't he be early? Where was he?
And then she heard him come in. She waited a while, not wanting to walk in - out? - on James. He did have a boyfriend, and despite the fact that she said pretty much whatever she wanted and even considering that her mind wandered to some very filthy locations, Yasu did have morals. No, don't feel bad for being shocked. It happens to everybody.
She heard him then walk away and open another door. He better not have left! Opening the uniform closet door just a bit, she saw him fully clothed retrieving his broomstick. She frowned for a split second, but chose not to make a comment on the fact that he still had a shirt. "Excited about the turnout you got out there?" she asked with her head sticking out of the closet, referencing the crowd of eager athletes and watcher-letes (like herself) that were outside.

James yelped in surprise, turning to find Yasu behind him, grinning. "Jesus, don't sneak up on me like that!'' he exclaimed. "Why are you even in here?"

"Why are you even surprised?" Yasu shot back with a brief laugh. She climbed out of the closet over untidy piles of shirts and some red and gold robes. "I thought I'd come visit and check... on things. Anyway, I thought I'd be here waiting with Cael to wish you luck on finding a team that'll win us the cup. But, you know, no boyfriend, so I thought I'd hide. Much more fun that way" She shrugged, closing the closet door behind her. "So you're in need of a seeker and a keeper and... anything else? Or am I wrong?"

James smiled, over his miniature heart attack. "I appreciate it. Yeah, looking for a Seeker and a Keeper, but everyone has to try out again." In the back of his mind he was figuring out what exercises he was going to make the tryouts do. "Looking forward to it, are we?" he teased her.
--
Cael stood up from where he'd been seated in the library, slinging his bag over his shoulder and checking out the books he'd been looking at. He was off to the Quidditch pitch. While he wasn't particularly invested in the sport, James was holding tryouts today. His boyfriend hadn't asked him to come, but he didn't mind going. He liked seeing James on his broom because he was happy there (and not that he'd ever admit it, but Cael was rather fond of the Quidditch uniform). He didn't have much else planned for the day anyway, and it was good to get outside. He quickly made his way across the castle and out over the grounds. He could hear the crowd of people before he even walked into the stadium, and he took a seat up towards the top of the stands.

Yasu arched her eyebrows at James. "I have no idea what your'e talking about," she said as casually as possible, guessing he was speaking of the shirt, but deciding not to mention it. She did have a plan in mind if he showed up outside fully clothed.
Besides, if what she found in her dormitory meant anything, there would be something else to look forward to today.
She started to head for the entrance, glancing over to see if he was headed for the field too. "Seems a little lame that everyone has to tryout again. What about you, Butterfly? Are they so confident in your flying abilities they just assume you won't screw it up?" she asked.

James smiled at Yasu, walking towards the doorway leading out to the field. "I'm the captain, I don't have to try out. I'm automatically guaranteed a spot. Besides, I don't want to let all the old players on the team just because they made it last year. Wouldn't really be fair. Besides, who knows if there's someone who plays better who just hadn't tried out before?" James shrugged. Lame or not, it was how he did things.

Yasu nodded. She understood the concept, and she saw the fairness, she just wondered if people who had fought hard for certain positions would be annoyed. She shrugged and went along with it anyway. It was natural to be annoyed, but everyone just had to work hard.
"I don't know... you could be slipping," she joked, elbowing him in the ribcage as they continued towards the field.
The field was coming into view, sunlight pouring into the hallway. In the distance a red and gold mob was waiting, Yasu could tell. Depending on Chayne's distinctly bright hair and short height, Yasu scanned, but she was no where to be seen. What she didn't know was that Chayne was off to the side and in the back of the mob, making it nearly impossible for her to be seen.

"Me?" James asked in mock shock as Yasu elbowed him. "Never!" he grinned back at her, stepping out onto the field. His eyes immediately trained on the reasonably large crowd on the other end of the pitch, then on the huddled mob of Gryffindor hopefuls. He took a second to size them up; noticing those who looked anxious to the point of vomiting and those who looked like they'd been shanghied into tryouts by their peers. He smiled at them, nodding at those who'd been on the team the year before.
"You guys ready for try-outs?" he asked cheerfully. -- Cael turned a page in his book, ignoring his surroundings. He'd arrived at the pitch quicker than he'd thought he would, but since he had a book on him he didn't really mind. He glanced up as the talking among the spectators suddenly grew more hushed. James had strode onto the field, Yasu behind him. Cael didn't bother to fight the small smile that blossomed when he saw James in his element, back on the pitch once more. (Not to mention, he looked pretty good in that uniform.)

Yasu was glad to see James happy, which she was sure would make Cael happy, and happy friends made for a happy Yasu. But so did shirtless men. Yasu cast a wary eye over to her Quidditch friend, but she let it go. If he didn't do it, she would find a way. A grin on her face, Yasu enthusiastically waved to the crowd. "Good luck guys!" she called out, before racing over to find the stairs to join Cael.
"Boyfriend of the captain, how goes it?" Yasu asked, pulling out a bag of Bertie Botts and snatching a sparkling pale blue bean before offering some to Cael.
-------------------
James entered, and between the muscular arms of two guys Chayne spotted him. She didn't bother to really eye her competition, attempting to focus on her future captain instead. Was Chayne confident? Maybe a little. But Chayne often invested in her skills and success, and not without good reason. Her eyes flashed to another Gryffindor, a boy tossing a metal ball in his hand. Another seeker potential? No. She had to focus on James.
A different metallic caught her eye and she shifted her gaze to see that a girl was still wearing a necklace, likely because she had forgotten to take it off for the tryouts. Another boy was wearing an enchanted golden watch.
No, she couldn't let her eyes get captured just yet. Her owl-eyed gaze fell back onto James, waiting for instruction.

"Okay, first off, I want everyone to fly four laps around the pitch, all right?" James asked the students gathered there. "After that, we'll have any prospective Keepers try out." The Gryffindors, some of them grumbling in irritation, mounted their brooms and did as he asked. James watched them from the ground, noting the better fliers of the bunch.
--
Cael smiled at Yasu. "Good. You?" he asked, politely declining the offer of the Every Flavor Beans. He had horrible luck with them, always managing to grab a flavor like bogies or vomit.

Chayne mounted her Arrowhead 13, a rather obscure brand of Quidditch broom that had only been around for a couple months. Chayne had fallen in love with it instantly at age 11 and to this day had loved the pale ash color of the shaft wood accompanied by the dark ebony of the head. The end was roughly carved to resemble the tip of an arrow. Perhaps it wasn't the fastest, but it allowed for the most agile of maneuvers with its light weight and short, thinner build.
Calm as ever, she kicked off the ground with ease and cut clean in an upwards diagonal motion, weaving through the crowd of people who had just mounted their broomsticks. Despite the fact that she could've easily gotten to the outside and not been slowed by some of the older brooms or the less experienced flyers, Chayne refused to leave the center of the crowd, enjoying weaving through the others in a simple but very entertaining fashion.

"Do I need to pick a bean for you to accept my clean, non suggestive offer?" Yasu asked with narrowed eyes, still keeping a good natured smile as she popped her own bean into her mouth. A super sweet yet spicy and powdery flavor filled her mouth. Fairy dust collected off a forest fairy's tiny wings. Excellent.
Satisfied, she began searching the bag for something she thought Cael would appreciate. Being a food girl, she had a sixth sense for such things. "As for my day, it's going well. I'm excited about the tryouts for more than one reason, actually, which is a shock. Speaking of which, if you spot a Gryffindor girl with long, curly black hair that's probably Tessa. I need to wave her over," Yasu informed Cael. "So, as you have obligations to Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, who do you root for in these things?"

James was glad he'd asked those gathered to fly a few laps first, as a couple of the students flew off their brooms. He kindly asked them to leave the pitch, and they did without much trouble. He then mounted his own broom, flying up a few feet. "Great! Anyone who is trying out for Beater, let's have you go to the left," he gestured to the other end of the pitch, "and you can try out first." He hadn't forgotten his promise to Yasu, but he figured it'd be best to have the Bludgers put away before he took off the shirt and armored padding he was wearing.
--
"I have awful luck with those, is all." Cael tried to explain, but Yasu started to rummage in her bag after eating her own bean. He chewed on his lower lip, wondering if he'd upset her--he hadn't really meant to. But as she continued to talk, he figured she wasn't too put out about it. He nodded as he mentioned Tessa, sweeping his eyes over the crowd of people, but turned back to her as she asked about who he rooted for. He shrugged.
"Why can't I root for both?" he replied with a smile. "Either way, I win."

Chayne was no beater, though as she thought about all her training with staves and axes she wondered if she would've been any good at it. Still, she decided to leave it be. That was not what she was there. Instead, she continued to fly, getting a feel for the wind that today had brought, all the while concealing herself within the crowd. However, her eyes were wide, and she kept glancing at James testing the beaters just to see what he was doing and how he was dealing with them.
............................
"Well, technically its completely logical and I'm a-o-k with people rooting for what they like and believe in. So I'll leave you be. But what about Slytherin and Hufflepuff? They not allowed to win anything?" Yasu asked, finally fishing out a bean that she would deem worthy of Cael. To her it gave off a 'honeysuckle' or maybe even a 'wild berry' feel. Something about it felt organic and outdoorsy, things that screamed Cael despite his lack of athletic interests simply because they natural, innocent flavors that were still delicious and not too sweet since they were from nature and untouched by human hands and alterations.
"Here Cupid, eat this." With that, the blonde shoved a golden and purple-speckled bean towards his face.

"The rest of you can land back on the pitch." James told those who weren't trying out for Beater. He pulled his wand out of his pocket as they flew back to the ground. "Ready?" he called. Those left in the air nodded. "All right. Try to smack the Bludgers towards the goalposts, and don't get knocked off your brooms while you're at it. Go!" he waved his wand, and the trunk back on the ground flew open, releasing the Bludgers, which promptly started to hurtle through the air all up and down the pitch.
--
Cael smirked. "It's not necessarily a matter if they're allowed...it's more like if they can." he joked.
He blinked as she shoved the bean in his face. "Er, alright.." he said warily, taking a tentative bite into the candy.
