New partnerships in digital technology, especially in research, have included Europe's public and private sectors, and the launch of these five new unions aims to put more meat on the bones of the EU's ambitions for greater sovereignty technology and ensure that European principles and ethics support products such as robots , machine learning, autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence.
One of the associations in digital technology is on Artificial Intelligence, Data and Robotics
“We do this because of our European values,” said Thomas Hahn, president of the Big Data Value Association (BDVA), the industry group behind one of the associations, on Artificial Intelligence, Data and Robo Caseno Email List tics, and chief software expert at Siemens. "We have to increase our momentum in Europe," Hahn said. "We have to push this forward in a smart way."

The AI association has established the objectives of driving new markets and applications and attracting investments, to create technical, economic and social value for companies, citizens and the environment. " Europe can and should be the pacemaker in seven years, and we have a powerful network between startups, SMEs, large companies, research institutes and the government that do this," said Hahn.
Another association is in smart networks and services
Similarly, Colin Willcock, president of the G Infrastructure Partnership , the group behind the partnership on smart networks and services, and head of radio network standardization at Nokia, said Europe must be able to configure its cellular networks to align with European values in areas such as data protection. "If we base our entire future industry on this infrastructure, the ability to influence it is very important," he said.
Cellular networks are extending their tentacles towards applications that are increasingly dependent on communication. Faster networks are key for autonomous vehicles, the Internet of Things, smart cities and virtual reality. “These are all areas where we can apply this mobile communications and we can get huge benefits,” Willcock said.

The goal of the smart grid partnership is to strengthen G networks to enable industry leadership while laying the foundation for the next generation of G. Working together, industry partners, including non-European companies, can set the path to G, working on a proof of concept for the underlying technologies, in preparation for the start of deployment in
“If we don't have the ability to create and influence that technology in Europe, it won't meet the requirements and constraints of the European market,” Willcock said. "It is vital that we have some type of technological sovereignty."
The other three partnerships in digital technology are in high performance computing, key digital technologies, and photonics.
Together, the five public-private partnerships will form the digital cluster of around research partnerships to be established under the EU's next research programme, Horizon Europe.
Within the digital cluster, all five are interconnected and interdependent. Many AI tools require G to function efficiently, while AI is necessary to process the huge amount of data generated by G networks. For Europe to shape the development of these sectors in accordance with its regulations and priorities, such as personal data protection and human-centered AI, it must have control over all key technologies.
